One Pillar Pagoda, was built in 1049 by Ly Thai Tong (1028-1054), a king of Ly's dynasty. Its name means “long happiness and prosperity”. The Pagoda which was built in 1049, was entirely constructed with wood on a pillar made of single stone. It is designed to resemble a lotus blossom which a Buddhist symbol of purity.
